About me
Helping dog owners make smarter nutrition choices — with clarity, evidence, and common sense
Hi, I’m Michaela, the founder of MY DOG LAB.
I help dog owners better understand what they are feeding, cut through the noise around canine nutrition, and make more informed choices that support their dog’s long-term health.
MY DOG LAB was created for people who want more than marketing claims, food trends, or generic feeding advice. My approach is grounded in research, practical thinking, and one simple belief: nutrition matters, and dog owners deserve better guidance.
My goal is not to sell perfection. It is to help you make better, more realistic decisions for your dog — whether that means improving the current diet, adding fresh food in the right way, or building a more thoughtful long-term nutrition plan.
The story behind
MY DOG LAB
MY DOG LAB began with my own dog, Berta.
Like many dog owners, I wanted to do the right thing. I cared deeply, I tried to choose well, and I assumed that if a product looked trustworthy and was marketed as healthy, it probably was. But the more I started reading, comparing, and digging into the topic of canine nutrition, the more I realized how confusing and contradictory this space can be.
There is a huge amount of information out there — and not all of it is useful, balanced, or evidence-based. Strong opinions are everywhere. Marketing is everywhere. And for most owners, it is hard to know what actually matters.
That realization sent me down a much deeper path of learning. What started as a personal effort to better support Berta’s health became a serious, ongoing commitment to understanding canine nutrition in a more critical and structured way.
Over time, that work grew into MY DOG LAB — a place where dog owners can find guidance that is thoughtful, science-led, and practical enough to use in real life.
Why this matters
I believe nutrition is one of the most overlooked foundations of a dog’s health.
Food does not solve everything. But it does influence a lot: body condition, digestive health, energy, skin and coat quality, resilience, and overall well-being over time. Yet many owners are left navigating a market full of processed products, vague claims, and conflicting advice.
That is a problem.
I created MY DOG LAB because I believe dog owners should be able to ask better questions, understand the trade-offs, and make choices based on more than branding or habit.
My philosophy is simple:
look at the evidence, not the hype
think long term, not just symptom by symptom
prefer clarity over dogma
focus on what is practical and sustainable
aim for progress, not perfection
I am especially interested in helping owners move toward less processed, more thoughtful feeding approaches, while staying realistic about lifestyle, budget, and what is actually doable.
How I work
My approach is personalized, structured, and evidence-based.
I begin by reviewing the information you provide about your dog, including the current diet, feeding routine, body condition, activity level, age, breed, lifestyle, and any relevant history or concerns.
From there, I assess the diet in a structured way. This includes analyzing the feeding plan for overall balance, reviewing ingredient quality and level of processing, and calculating whether the diet aligns with FEDIAF nutritional requirements, a widely used European guideline for assessing pet diet adequacy. I also adjust this analysis for the individual dog, because nutritional needs are not the same across every breed, life stage, body type, or activity level.
Depending on the case, I look for:
nutritional gaps or excesses
weak points in the current feeding approach
opportunities to improve ingredient quality
ways to include fresh food more thoughtfully
practical adjustments that make the diet more appropriate and sustainable
My goal is to combine nutritional analysis with real-life practicality — so you get guidance that is not only evidence-based, but also realistic to follow.
No guesswork. No hype. Just clear, thoughtful recommendations tailored to your dog.
Why trust me
I take this work seriously.
MY DOG LAB is built on continuous study, careful research, and a genuine commitment to responsible guidance. I have spent extensive time learning about canine nutrition, reviewing scientific literature, studying ingredient quality, processing, feeding approaches, and the broader factors that influence a dog’s health.
Just as importantly, I try to approach the topic with humility.
I do not believe in miracle claims, extreme promises, or black-and-white thinking. Good nutrition guidance should be honest about uncertainty, grounded in evidence, and tailored to the individual dog.
That also means being clear about what I do — and what I do not do.
MY DOG LAB does not replace veterinary care.
I do not diagnose medical conditions or treat disease. If a dog has symptoms or a medical issue, veterinary support comes first. My role is to help owners better understand the nutrition side, ask better questions, and make better-informed feeding decisions alongside appropriate professional care.
